DotNetNuke was around long before its PHP-based rivals Drupal and Joomla, and it has been a staple of the content management arena since 2002. DNN is built on the powerful Microsoft ASP.NET framework, it’s flexible, easy to adopt and easy to learn.
DNN is an open-source product, and when it comes to expanding its functionality there are a couple options. One is the custom programming of business specific DNN modules and the other is the extending the functionality through one of thousands of 3rd party DNN-approved modules already available on snowcovered.com.

Why Did We Choose DNN?
We have used and developed on both Joomla and Drupal (www.thirddegreeadv.com), but mostly we have moved clients off of those systems due to the complexity of the site administration panels, the inability to see what you are editing while you edit, or the lack of flexibility when it comes to complex design requirements. The majority of the sites we have migrated to DNN were abandoned by their original developers due to not wanting to or not being able to work within the application to satisfy the customer needs.
Over the years, Bright Spectrum has tested and deployed a number of content management systems, some free, some requiring a license. We determined DNN gave our clients the most bang for the buck (0 bucks), based on feature set, capabilities, support and ease of use.
